The old picture showing Windermere Flats on Durban's beachfront probably shot in the 70s.

The old picture this week shows a scene from North Beach and was taken from the Facebook Page Durban Down Memory Lane. It probably dates to the early seventies.
The picture features the Windermere apartment block of flats on the corner of KE Masinga (Old Fort) and OR Tambo (Marine) Parade. They were built post World War 2 and overlook the site of the sunken gardens and the old Durban Pavilion site which is today a carpark. The flats, while all privately owned, are still very much in use as holiday apartments today.
In The new picture, behind Windermere is Mallington (you can see the peachy coloured top of the building peeking out above Windermere) and the the Marine Sands, one of the oldest holiday letting operations on Durban’s beachfront followed by the bold white and turquoise decor of the Palace Hotel. On the left, out of picture, is the North Beach restaurant hub and entertainment hub. The trees have grown substantially.
The scene shot this week.
