A MOTHER and her teenage daughter were injured after being attacked by two pit bulls while walking in Manor Gardens, Durban, on Wednesday.

According to ALS Paramedics spokesperson Garrith Jamieson, the incident occurred on Wednesday while the pair were walking their own dogs in the area. The encounter with the pit bulls was described as sudden and violent.

Paramedics, accompanied by security officers, responded to the scene and found that both the woman and her daughter had sustained bite wounds to their lower limbs.

“Paramedics arrived with Homeland Security personnel to find that the mom and teenage daughter had been bitten by two pit bulls while walking their dogs,” Jamieson said.

He said advanced life support paramedics treated the pair at the scene before transporting them to a nearby hospital for further medical care.

“The dogs were not present while medics worked,” Jamieson added.

The extent of the injuries has not been disclosed, and it is not yet known whether the victims required surgery or remain hospitalised.

Jamieson said police are investigating the incident, and the circumstances that led to the attack are still unclear. It has also not been confirmed where the pit bulls came from or whether they were under the control of an owner at the time of the attack.

No further information has been released regarding the fate of the dogs or whether any arrests have been made.

Authorities have not issued additional public safety warnings, but the incident adds to ongoing concerns around dog attacks involving powerful breeds in residential areas.

The investigation remains ongoing.
