As the results of the Independent Examinations Board (IEB) matriculation exams rolled out yesterday, high-achieving graduates from KwaZulu-Natal’s prestigious schools reflected on a year of hard work, balance, and consistency that paved the way for their remarkable success in 2025. Candidates from Crawford International La Lucia, Crawford International North Coast, and Kearsney College did not just excel academically, but also found their names on the IEB Outstanding Achievements list for achieving top marks in six or more subjects and attaining a level 7 in Life Orientation.
Manzil Harikaran-Giandev from Crawford International La Lucia shared his sentiments on receiving his results, noting the blend of relief and clarity it brought him. “More than anything, it feels really refreshing to know the outcome of my efforts and commitment this year,” he revealed, while also humbly acknowledging areas where he felt he could have performed better. Harikaran-Giandev’s matriculation year was characterised by a rich tapestry of commitments spanning the KZN Youth Orchestra, sports, and academics. “Balancing sport, music, and academics was certainly the most challenging task of 2025,” he said, emphasising that his diverse involvement helped him navigate the pressures surrounding the matric year.
For Harikaran-Giandev, the pinnacle of the year came outside the exam room. “Receiving my white honours blazer for excellence in academics, music, and service to the school and community was my proudest moment. It left an indelible mark on my character,” he explained. Looking ahead, he plans to study IT at university, aspiring to a career that merges both IT and aviation. His invaluable advice for future matriculants? “Play sport and enjoy music while you are studying. Balance is everything.”
