Midvaal Local Municipality Mayor Peter Teixeira is offering bursaries to the matric class of 2025 residing within its boundaries.
The municipality announced that it has once again opened applications for the Mayoral Student Financial Aid Programme, which was launched in 2024 to support students pursuing higher education qualifications.
The programme is now in its third year and assists with tuition and registration fees, as well as essential study resources such as laptops and textbooks.
“Since its inception in 2024, the fund has disbursed over R1.5 million, benefiting over 57 students and supporting them on their academic journeys.
In response to the continued high demand for study assistance, R750,000 has once again been allocated for this academic year,” the municipality stated.
It also reiterated its commitment to the mayoral undertaking of creating opportunities for all.
“Our goal is to ease the financial burden on students so they can focus on their studies and go on to contribute meaningfully to society,” Midvaal added.
Applications for the Mayoral Student Financial Aid Programme are now open and will close on Friday, January 23, 2026. The municipality also encouraged potential applicants and all eligible students to take advantage of the opportunity to visit its website for more information.
Teixeira has issued congratulations to the class of 2025.
“Today marks an important milestone in your journey. Whether your results meet your expectations or not, remember that this moment does not define your worth or limit your future. It reflects courage, resilience, and the effort you have put in,” he stated.
Teixeira urged them to celebrate their achievements, learn from the challenges, and know that many paths still lie ahead.
“Keep believing in yourself, stay focused, and continue to dream boldly. Your journey is only beginning, and brighter opportunities await.
“We are proud of you and wish you strength and confidence as you take your next steps forward,” he said.
DA-run Midvaal is consistently Gauteng’s top performing municipality across many key areas and has had clean audits for more than a decade.
Last year, the municipality also won several awards at the SA Local Government Association’s annual event honouring top performing councils.
