St Annes Theatre, Hilton: The school presents its major production Everybody by Branden Jacobs-Jenkins. What does it mean to live well? What do we carry with us when everything else falls away? Seabrookes Theatre, DHS: The second edition of Poetic Symphony is on March 21 at 3pm. It’s a fusion of spoken word and live orchestral music with the KZN Philharmonic Orchestra. Poets include Mbali Malimela, Deborah Johnson, Adam Mots, Torsten Clear and Malika Ndlovu. Expect moving storytelling, rich musical arrangements, and a celebration of South African artistry. Izulu Theatre, Sibaya: Bollywood & Chutney Night as the legendary sounds return when Saraswathi Impressions reunites after 25 years. Milkwood Theatre, Durban North: The Young Performers’ Project presents Disney’s The Little Mermaid Jr from April 2 to 12. Inspired by Hans Christian Anderson’s beloved fairy tale, and based on the classic animated Disney movie, it is a hauntingly beautiful love story for the ages - perfect for the youthful 50 strong cast. St Thomas Church, Berea: (tomorrow) The Durban City Orchestra presents From Stage to Screen on Sunday March at 3pm. The programme features a bouquet of themes from much loved movies and evergreen musicals. Conducted by Charl van der Merwe these include: How to Train your Dragon, Moon River, My Fair Lady, The Godfather, West Side Story, Schindler’s List, Les Mis, Gladiator, James Bond and Pirates of the Caribbean. Centre for Jazz and Popular Music, UKZN: The Songbook Sessions: a Monday night jam session. The first half is a curated set featuring tunes selected by an invited band leader. The second half is an open jam session. March 9 at 5.30pm. Tickets R70-R130 from webtickets

Playhouse Opera: South African music titan Thandiswa Mazwai on her 50th Birthday Tour on March 20 at 7.30pm. ART

KZNSA: (today) Two new exhibitions opened last night. In the Main and Mezzanine Galleries is  Common Ground conceived by award‑winning artist Jess Bothma following her 2024 Members’ Award Show win. It transforms a solo invite into a collective exploration of sculpture. In the Park Gallery is Not For Sale curated by an emerging curatorial practice named The Dealr, it is a provocation that plays with the tension between value, ownership, and experience. Today Durban artists Selloane Moeti, Wonder Buhle, and Mthobisi Maphumulo will share insights into navigating the highly competitive art industry at 11am in the KZNSA Gallery Court Yard.

FILM

Alliance Française: The French cultural society continues to bring cinema to life in inspiring venues around Durban. These include First Thursdays showing a documentary film at Humble Coffee; Second Wednesdays featuring a new African Cineclub showing contemporary cinema from the continent at the KZNSA; and Last Tuesdays is the traditional French Cineclub at St Clements, celebrating contemporary French cinema. Entry is free and food and drink available for purchase. 

Rhumbelow Theatre: With cinemas either closing or becoming really expensive, and Netflix becoming very stay-at-home-predictable, enjoy the notion of an old-fashioned movie night out with friends… with a drink in your hand and affordable snacks (other than popcorn)… The club is subscription based – and subs for early 2026 are now due. EVENTS

St Margaret’s Anglican Church: The South African National Society will host a talk on Saturday March 21 at 09.30 for 10am. Guest Speaker is Phil Everitt with a talk entitled The Spirit of Man based on the experiences of his father who was taken prisoner at Tobruk in 1942. Tickets members R50/ visitors: R70. Refreshments after the meeting.

KZNSA Gallery: The 29th Time of the Writer Festival runs from March 23-28, live and online. With over 80 authors, the programme explores the theme Ink‑stitutions of Power through conversations, workshops, book launches and a children’s festival. Highlights include Fred Khumalo with Njabulo Ndebele and Antjie Krog. Online events are free; tickets for in person activities will be available from the gallery.

Le Domaine: The Animal Anti-Cruelty League is hosting a wine tasting fundraiser offering a relaxing evening of wine and good company. Friday, March 27 from 6pm to 9pm on the Club De Vie Verandah.
