Police in the Western Cape have confirmed two suspects have been taken in for questioning after a bloody start to Sunday, September 14, in Kraaifontein.
Three people died, and another was injured during a shooting incident during the early morning hours on Sunday, September 14. A woman was also raped.
The provincial police spokesperson, Brigadier Novela Potelwa, said the suspects have not yet been charged.
“As part of ongoing investigations into the shooting incidents that left three men dead, another injured, and a woman raped, two suspects are currently questioned by detectives in connection with the double murder shooting incident, as well as the attempted murder and rape. The suspects, aged 25 and 26 from Kraaifontein, have not been charged yet. However, the investigators are hard at work pursuing specific leads that relate to the shooting incidents,” Potelwa said.
She said as the investigation gains momentum, a breakthrough is anticipated in due course.
This follows a 35-year-old man who was shot and killed in the Mhongqo informal settlement at 1am.
In the second incident, a man (age unknown) was shot and wounded and his female companion was raped between 2am and 3am. This incident took place about 30 metres from the first crime scene.
Minutes later, at about 3.14am, two men, believed to be between the ages of 25 and 30, were shot and killed not far from the two other crime scenes.
Police said the motive for the incidents is still being investigated.
