The ongoing shooting across Cape Town continues as three people were gunned down in Mitchells Plain on Wednesday evening.
The incident took place just after 8 pm in Westrige.
According to information received by IOL, two of the victims gunned down are believed to be affiliated with gangs.
One of the victims is alleged to belong to the Firm Boys gang.
Western Cape police spokesperson Brigadier Novela Potelwa said the Anti-Gang Unit detectives are investigating the matter.
“Police reports indicate the incident occurred at approximately 8:20 pm and is believed to be gang conflict-related,” Potelwa said.
She confirmed the victims were aged 20, 23, and 32.
“The reports further suggest that the victims were shot by yet-to-be-identified gunmen who fired multiple shots at the deceased and fled in a vehicle. The suspects are yet to be arrested,” Potelwa said.
Police urge anyone with information that could assist in their investigation to contact Crime Stop at 08600 10111, or use the MySAPS mobile application.
Police have confirmed that any information shared will be handled with strict confidentiality.
Cape Town has been plagued by gang violence in recent weeks. On Sunday, hundreds took to the streets from about 150 different churches in a prayer walk to end the ongoing violence in Mitchells Plain.
Last Friday, September 12, 2025, Police Minister Professor Firoz Cachalia met with Cape Town Mayor Geordin Hill-Lewis following a series of community stakeholder engagements in Mitchells Plain and Mfuleni earlier that week. Cachalia met with residents who expressed their safety concerns and the dangers they face daily.
On September 10, National Police Commissioner General Fannie Masemola previously said the ongoing gang violence remains a concern and explained how SAPS was engaging with communities in the Western Cape, especially along the 31 identified stations that are hotspots for gang violence.
It was also revealed that the SAPS had recovered 80 illegal firearms in the Western Cape during that week, and 180 illegal firearms across the country during various operations. Masemola said that from April 1, a total of 1,026 illegal firearms have been seized from various parts of the Western Cape.
