Police in Malamulele, under the Vhembe District in Limpopo, have launched a manhunt for three men who allegedly broke into a woman’s home, assaulted and raped her before fleeing with her belongings.
The horrific incident occurred in the early hours of Tuesday morning at a homestead in Malamulele.
“According to reports, a 35-year-old woman was asleep at her residence when she was awakened by three unknown men, one of whom was armed with a firearm. The suspects allegedly demanded money from the victim at gunpoint,” said Limpopo police spokesperson Colonel Malesela Ledwaba.
When the attackers realised the woman had no money, they allegedly assaulted and raped her before robbing her of several items, including three laptops and three cellphones.
“The suspects further demanded the keys to her white Nissan Hardbody NP300 bakkie, which they used to flee the scene. The total value of the stolen property is estimated at R459,000,” Ledwaba said.
Police recovered the stolen vehicle later that same day at Mulenzhe village in the Thohoyandou policing area, where it had been abandoned.
Cases of house robbery and rape have been opened, and investigations are under way to trace and arrest the suspects and recover the remaining stolen property.
“Anyone with information that may assist in the apprehension of the suspects is urged to contact the investigating officer, Sergeant Soza Nkwinika, on 082 319 9724; call Crime Stop on 08600 10111; visit the nearest police station; or use the My SAPS App,” Ledwaba added.
