Police are on a manhunt after a mass shooting in Wells Estate in Gqeberha on Sunday afternoon left two men dead and six others injured.

The shooting happened around 4:25 pm on Masinga Street, where officers found the victims after responding to reports of gunfire. Two men were killed, and six others were injured in the attack, police said.

"It is alleged that police members were on duty when they received a complaint of a shooting in Masinga Street, Wells Estate. Upon arrival at the scene, they discovered the bodies of two adult males who had sustained multiple gunshot wounds. Both victims were declared deceased at the scene," the police said.

The police added that six other victims were also shot during the incident and were transported to nearby medical facilities for treatment, adding that the motive for the shooting is currently unknown, and no arrests have been made.

"The identities of the deceased will be released once they have been formally identified and their next of kin have been informed. The motive for the shooting is currently unknown, and no arrests have been made at this stage. Police investigations are ongoing.

IOL previously reported that two people were killed and six others wounded in a shooting in Eldorado Park, Johannesburg.

Police spokesperson Brigadier Brenda Muridili said a social gathering was taking place when about eight unknown men entered the yard and began firing randomly at the people before fleeing the scene on foot.

Two bodies were found at the scene, while six people with gunshot wounds were rushed to hospital.

“No suspects have been arrested yet and the motive of the shooting is unknown at this stage,” Muridili said.

A manhunt has been launched for the eight suspects.
