Minister of International Relations and Cooperation (Dirco) Ronald Lamola is expected to address the media to outline recent developments from the country’s work across regional and multilateral forums.
The briefing, set for Wednesday at Dirco’s offices in Pretoria, follows South Africa’s active participation in key regional and global platforms, including the Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD) Summit in Japan and the Southern African Development Community (SADC) Summit held in Madagascar.
“It is expected that Minister Lamola will also provide an update on preparations for the G20 Leaders’ Summit, to be held in Johannesburg in November 2025,” the department said in a statement.
As host, South Africa will preside over the G20 Leaders’ Summit, set the agenda, and coordinate engagement with partner economies worldwide.
Earlier this month, President Cyril Ramaphosa led the South African government in participating in the 9th TICAD.
The Yokohama summit, held August 20–22, under the theme “Co-creating Innovative Solutions With Africa,” was a platform to reinforce Africa’s development agenda through investment, technology transfer, and regional collaboration. Ramaphosa headed South Africa’s high-level delegation.
South Africa also participated in the 45th Ordinary Summit of SADC Heads of State and Government.
The Summit was convened under the banner “Advancing Industrialisation, Agricultural Transformation and Energy Transition for a Resilient SADC.”
The gathering culminated in South Africa being elected as the incoming Chair of SADC for 2026 and host of the 46th summit in August next year, nearly a decade after its first incumbency.
