Deputy President Paul Mashatile is currently responding to Questions for Oral Reply in the National Assembly on matters related to his delegated responsibilities, focusing on government efforts to drive inclusive economic growth, alleviate poverty, reduce the cost of living, and build a capable state.
Acting Spokesperson to the Deputy President, Keith Khoza, said the engagement forms part of the constitutional mandate for Cabinet members to account to Parliament on the exercise of their powers and performance.
''The Deputy President will apprise Members of Parliament about Government’s interventions on land redistribution programmes and ongoing efforts to achieve transformation regarding Land Reform and Rural Development.''
Khoza added that, as Chairperson of the Government of National Unity (GNU) Clearing House Mechanism, Mashatile will also brief Members of Parliament on the recently adopted Terms of Reference of the Clearing House and the mechanisms put in place to ensure the country is not governed by a disjointed Executive when disagreements arise within the GNU.
In addition, Mashatile will address questions related to national security and community safety, said Khoza.
Khoza said he will provide “a comprehensive update on interventions and solid steps taken in the Cabinet Committee on Justice, Crime-Prevention and Security at a national level, to strengthen the coordination among law enforcement, intelligence and border agencies to dismantle the criminal networks and curb the flow of drugs into the Republic of South Africa.”
Mashatile is also expected to outline progress on the District Development Model (DDM), with Khoza noting that the Deputy President will highlight the progress that has been made “to accelerate and improve service delivery as well as stimulate socio-economic development at a national, provincial and local government level.''
