Lieutenant General Molefe Fani, the Divisional Commissioner for Supply Chain Management at SAPS is currently testifying before the Ad Hoc Committee.
The committee was established following serious allegations made public by KwaZulu-Natal Police Commissioner Lieutenant General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi.
In a dramatic disclosure, Mkhwanazi claimed that a notorious criminal syndicate, allegedly protected by political figures including suspended Police Minister Senzo Mchunu and linked to senior police officials, including his Chief of Staff Cedrick Nkabinde, had been interfering in police operations.
He further alleged that this syndicate was central to the Minister’s collusion with drug cartels and political hitmen aimed at disbanding the Political Killings Task Team (PKTT), a unit tasked with investigating politically motivated murders.
Mkhwanazi also linked Mchunu to the infamous murder suspect and controversial businessman Vusimuzi “Cat” Matlala, who allegedly exerted undue influence over top police officials and profited from multiple police tenders.
Lt Gen Fani’s forthcoming testimony is highly anticipated, as he is expected to shed light on procurement processes and how some tenders were awarded, potentially revealing irregularities and the extent of possible criminal influence in SAPS supply chain operations.
The committee's investigation continues amid growing demands from Members of Parliament for greater transparency and accountability from all witnesses.
The inquiry seeks to unravel the depth of corruption alleged within SAPS and its impact on law enforcement credibility in South Africa.
As the committee hears more evidence, public attention remains fixed on the outcomes of this critical investigation into police integrity and political involvement in criminal activities.
