Two people lost their lives and five others were wounded in a shooting incident in Hime Street in Wentworth on Friday morning.
The crime scene is still active, and details surrounding the shooting incident at sketchy at this point.
It is understood that the gunmen were on foot and opened fire on a group of people on Hime Road.
Environmental activist Desmond D'Sa said there have been ongoing shootings in the area this week.
Many of these shootings in the area are due to turf wars and gangsterism.
Last year, police told IOL that there had been numerous interventions by police to address the challenge of youth involved in crime in Wentworth.
"The factors contributing to the youth involved in serious crime require a multi-faceted approach. Police deployments alone will not deal with the root causes of the crime," police spokesperson Brigadier Jay Naicker said.
*This is a developing story, and more details will be added once received."
