Authorities swooped in yesterday on a construction company in Bree Street, Cape Town CBD, in a raid that ended with the arrest of 27 undocumented immigrants.

The operation was carried out by the South African Police Service (SAPS), Home Affairs, Metro Police, CCID, and Employment Labour Inspection.

Officers searched the premises and questioned workers on-site. Many were found without proper documentation, and others were found with alleged fake documents. Others tried to flee, while some tried to hide, but they were eventually caught.

Police Spokesperson, Sergeant Wesley Twigg, said the adult males were detained at Cape Town Central police station and will appear in the Cape Town Magistrates 'court once they have been charged.

"They face charges in terms of the Immigration Act," said Sergeant Wesley Twigg.
