A mass shooting in Westbury has left two children dead and five others wounded, authorities confirmed on Monday.
Reports indicate that the victims, aged between 13 and 19, were immediately rushed to hospital by the community due to the severity of their injuries.
Gauteng Deputy Police Commissioner Major General Fred Kekana confirmed that the shooting was gang-related. “During the incident, the commander of crime prevention and the visible commander of Sophia Town Police Station were only three streets away with his team conducting routine crime prevention. This area is notorious for drug-related activity and gang turf fights. They reacted immediately,” Kekana said.

He added that the Anti-Gang Unit, under a captain on the ground, also responded swiftly. “We have video footage of the officers’ presence during the incident. Once the perpetrators are located, they will face justice,” he stated.
ActionSA Member of Parliament Dereleen James also reacted to the tragedy on social media, writing, “Just in, mass shooting in Westbury... 2 fatalities. Boys between the ages of 14 and 19.
