Messages of support and donations continue to pour in for award-winning musician and producer Collen Ntala Mmotla, popularly known as DJ Chymamusique, who is recovering from multiple surgeries following a near-fatal car accident in August.
The acclaimed DJ, who survived the crash that tragically claimed five lives, including fellow artist DJ Poizen (Caven Masetla), has been sharing regular health updates with fans on social media.
The accident occurred on Saturday, August 30, 2025, along the N1 near Ysterberg Mountain, outside Polokwane, when two sedans collided head-on, leaving one vehicle engulfed in flames.
It was reported that four of the deceased were burnt beyond recognition.
Chymamusique sustained severe injuries, including two broken legs, head trauma requiring brain surgery, and multiple fractures to his shoulder, jaw, and knees.
He revealed that he has undergone six surgeries so far, with two more still pending.
In a heartfelt post, the DJ revealed that his speech and cognitive abilities have been affected following brain surgery and that he will be offline for several weeks to focus on recovery.
“Another surgery for me today. I am numb but the scripture keeps me strong,” he shared with fans.
Meanwhile, a BackaBuddy campaign set up by friends and supporters has raised over R50,000 to help cover medical expenses, equipment, and medication. The campaign appeals for contributions of any amount, citing the high costs of rehabilitation, medication for seizures, and hospital co-payments.
Local entertainers, including Mist SA, have also urged the creative community and the public to support the DJ during this difficult time.
“If there’s one guy that deserves our support during this difficult time as a creative industry/ artists, it’s Chymamusique,” Mist SA said. “This man, after his terrible accident, has been in and out of ICU undergoing serious surgeries on major parts of his body, including his skull/brain. As an artist, he lives off gigs and music, but right now, his income is on hold. Let’s come together and help however we can.”
