Johannesburg is set to turn purple next Friday as thousands of men hit the road for the annual Hollard Daredevil Run, donning only purple Speedos and takkies.
One of the biggest gatherings will take place at Zoo Lake, where brave Joburg participants will join men across South Africa to raise awareness about prostate and testicular cancer and support screening initiatives through CANSA and the Prostate Cancer Foundation.
Now in its 16th year, the Daredevil Run has become a bold, conversation-starting tradition, combining fun, fitness and fundraising. Participants receive purple Speedos emblazoned with awareness slogans, turning the event into a striking nationwide spectacle.

Last year, R1 million in funds was raised, with more than 6 000 participants and runners in over 400 locations nationally. Hollard is aiming to double the funds raised this year so that more men’s lives can be saved.
“Hollard is committed to driving positive change, creating awareness around prostate and testicular cancers which is why we’ve continued to grow the Daredevil Run year after year and set ambitious, bold goals alongside CANSA and the Prostate Cancer Foundation,” says Hazel Chimhandamba, group chief marketing officer at Hollard.
“The purple Speedos with the awareness raising slogans on them are a powerful symbol of what happens when men are daring and brave enough to save a life – sometimes, even their own. It makes a significant impact when everyone comes together for the Hollard Daredevil Run – whether they participate by running as well as by donating through the BackaBuddy programme”.
The annual event raises vital funds and awareness for prostate and testicular cancer, proving courage can be fun, funny and life-saving.
