In an exciting shift for the South African music podcast landscape, the popular show previously known as Piano Pulse has officially rebranded to Music Pulse. The announcement, made during a vibrant live reshuffle event at Theatre on the Square in Sandton, marks a significant evolution in the podcast's identity and direction.
Hosted by comedian PD Jokes, the event was streamed live on YouTube and drew an enthusiastic audience from the Podcast and Chill Network, which operates the show. The original title, Piano Pulse, gained prominence for its incisive exploration of the amapiano genre, engaging audiences with candid discussions on industry trends and artist dynamics.
Launched with a specific focus on amapiano, the podcast built a loyal following by unpacking the genre's development and offering unfiltered commentary. While this approach sometimes sparked debate, particularly regarding the focus on artists’ private lives, many listeners were drawn to the show's raw honesty and willingness to engage with contentious topics.
As Music Pulse, the podcast will pivot to cover a wide variety of South African music. Genres such as gospel, hip hop, house, Afro house, and maskandi are among those set to feature prominently.
A notable addition to the show’s hosting lineup is music executive Nhlamulo “Nota” Baloyi, who joins current hosts Thakgi Ledwaba, Sfiso Ndlovu, and Khanyi Mars. Baloyi is a well-known figure in the music and media sectors, often provocative in his views on record deals and the intricacies of artist management.

Media personality Mac G, whose network houses the podcast, framed the name change as a strategic move to align with a broader industry focus. He confirmed Baloyi's arrival in a lighthearted social media announcement: “We have the authority joining Music Pulse @lavidaNOTA; and don’t worry we have the lawyers.” This comment alluded to Baloyi’s often controversial stances and past legal run-ins that have frequently placed him in the public eye.
