South Africa is gearing up for one of the biggest nights on the local music calendar, with the METRO FM Music Awards set to take place on Saturday, 25 April at the Durban ICC.

The annual celebration will bring together leading artists, industry players and fans for a night dedicated to recognising excellence in South African music.

Organisers have announced a thrilling line-up of hosts for the 2026 METRO FM Music Awards, along with a star-studded artist roster for the accompanying music festival.

Midday Link Up presenter Lerato Kganyago and actor and TV presenter Lawrence Maleka have been named as the main hosts. The duo is expected to bring a mix of energy, charisma and charm to the main stage, setting the tone for an evening that celebrates both music and culture.

Maleka took to social media to share his excitement about hosting the event, saying: “The official host of the Metro FM Music Awards happening on the 25th of April. I am going to be there, please buy your tickets. Please come through, please support. All your favourite artists have been nominated. It only makes sense to show up and support.”

The station's Business Manager Kina Nhlengethwa described the event as a significant milestone. “This year’s METRO FM Music Awards is a milestone event which celebrates South Africa’s music journey, showcased through METRO FM’s four decades of influence. The host line-up is carefully curated to reflect the awards’ mission to honour SA’s music icons and evolution,” Nhlengethwa said.

The excitement continues with the addition of METRO FM’s newest on-air talents, Nomuzi “Moozlie” Mabena and Siyabonga “Scoop” Ngwekazi, who will host the Green Room. Their role will place them at the heart of the action, keeping winners and nominees engaged while capturing behind-the-scenes reactions throughout the night.

The Black Carpet, sponsored by Africa Fashion International (AFI), will be hosted by Lamiez Holworthy, station’s Penthouse Session host and DJ, ensuring a glamorous arrival for the stars. Meanwhile, Zola Mhlongo will serve as the show’s V.O.G., adding another layer of personality and flair to the broadcast.

This year’s Music Director is Grammy Award-winning producer and music icon Zakes Bantwini. His involvement is expected to elevate the show’s musical direction, aligning with the theme of music excellence against the culturally vibrant backdrop of Durban.

Beyond the awards ceremony, the celebration will continue with the electrifying awards festival at Moses Mabhida Stadium. The festival will be hosted by Weekend Breakfast Show presenter and Ask a Man host Somizi Mhlongo alongside actress Hope Mbhele, promising a non-stop party atmosphere to close off the evening on a high note.

The music festival at Moses Mabhida People’s Park will feature a spectacular line-up of performers, including Big Zulu, Jumbo, Big Nuz, Mthandeni, DJ Sox, Mafikizolo, Babalwa M, Khuzani, LKG, Simmy, Young Stunna, Lamiez Holworthy, Mgarimbe, Dladla Mshunqisi and Beast, Distruction Boyz, DJ Tira and Dankie Boy.
