Proteas batting sensation Dewald Brevis has been ruled out of the opening round of the 2026 IPL through injury.
Brevis, who plays for the Chennai Super Kings (CSK), will not be considered for selection in his side’s opening clash against Rajasthan Royals (RR) in Guwahati on Monday. The 22-year-old is reported to be battling a side strain.
The match starts at 4pm SA time.
Brevis was last in action for the Proteas in their ill-fated T20 World Cup semi-final defeat to New Zealand at Eden Gardens on March 4.
CSK coach Stephen Fleming said: “He is rehabbing and hopefully won’t be for too long.”
Brevis, the sole South African player for CSK, is currently recovering.
Over the weekend, South Africa’s Ryan Rickelton made an explosive start to the IPL in Wankhede on Sunday, with an explosive 81 from 43 ball to lead the Mumbai Indians (MI) to a six-wicket win over Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR).
Opening the innings with MI set an imposing 221 to win, Rickelton set the tone with eight maximums and four fours.
With Rohit Sharma at the other end going even better with 78 from 38, the pair put on an incredible 148 for the first wicket to lay the platform for the victory.
It was the perfect start for Rickelton, who also kept wicket during the encounter.
MI have an embarrassment of riches too, as they also have fellow Proteas opener and wicketkeeper Quinton de Kock in their squad.
