While Kaizer Chiefs have already made a number of high-profile signings ahead of the new season, club marketing director Jessica Motaung has promised the Soweto Giants will still sign more big names in the coming months.
Since the end of last season, Chiefs have already signed Ethan Chislett, Thabiso Monyane, Flavio Silva, Paseka Mako, Nkanyiso Shinga and Siphesihle Ndlovu.
Chiefs will not be involved in the opening weekend of local football action in the MTN8, but they will still have their work cut out from the outset in their new Betway Premiership campaign.
With Chiefs having finished outside the top eight in the league the last two seasons, there are increased expectations that the Soweto Giants will produce a much better showing.
“We’re certainly looking to sign even more players. With the window open until September, I think our supporters can watch this space and know that we have more players that we will be signing,” said Motaung.
“We are also excited with our youth players who showed during the pre-season that they know the Chiefs culture and how things are done at the club,” Motaung said.
Even though Chiefs won their first piece of silverware with the Nedbank Cup title last season, it did not hide their underperformance in the the league.
Now, Chiefs coach Nasreddine Nabi will have to ensure his troops hit the ground running from their first clash in the league.
That first clash will be an away clash against Stellenbosch FC on August 10. With Stellies having finished last term in third place on the log, the hosts will want to show why they finished six spots ahead of Chiefs.
