Kaizer Chiefs co-coach Cedric Kaze believes the team remains on the right path despite mounting criticism following a run of disappointing results in recent weeks.

Amakhosi will now turn their focus to a Betway Premiership clash against Durban City FC at FNB Stadium on Sunday (3:30pm kick-off), where they will be hoping to end a three-match losing streak and regain momentum in the league standings.

The co-coaching duo of Kaze and Khalil Ben Youssef have come under increasing pressure from supporters, with frustration growing among the club’s faithful following a series of disappointing results.

However, speaking ahead of the match, Kaze emphasised that rebuilding a club of Chiefs’ stature takes time, especially after the difficult past two seasons in which the team finished outside the top eight.

“A football team is not built in one night,” Kaze said at a media briefing.

“It’s a process, and I am not saying we are starting the process now. It is a process that started a few years ago, and this is a big club.

“But what we need to understand is that expectations change day to day. If we win three games, people start talking about winning the league. If you lose one or two games, they are calling for the coaches to be fired.

“All those things are part of the process and we need to focus on what we need to do. Two seasons ago we finished in tenth position, and last season we finished ninth position, and I am pretty sure that we are moving in a very good direction, but everyone needs to pull in that direction.”

Chiefs currently trail Durban City by two points, although they have two games in hand over the KwaZulu-Natal outfit. While Kaze remains confident in the team’s progress, results will need to improve soon if Amakhosi are to strengthen their position on the table and keep their ambitions of climbing higher in the standings alive.
