AmaZulu will look to regain their momentum when they host Sekhukhune United in a crucial Betway Premiership encounter at Princess Magogo Stadium on Monday (5.30pm kick-off).

Arthur Zwane's charges head into the clash sitting third on the table with 37 points, with Sekhukhune United just behind in sixth with 34 points. The visitors have the opportunity to draw level on points with Usuthu, adding extra weight to what striker Thabiso Kutumela believes will be a defining contest in the race for a top-three finish.

AmaZulu had built encouraging momentum with a home win against neighbours Richards Bay followed by a win away at  Polokwane City before the recent Fifa break interrupted their rhythm – something Kutumela admits has not been ideal.

“After winning at Polokwane, we had a break and only one friendly. We would have preferred to continue playing because breaks can affect momentum,” he said.

Despite the disruption, the forward insists the focus remains firmly on securing maximum points at home.

“We’re looking forward to winning this game because it’s important. We’re playing against a team we’re competing with for third place, and it will be about who wants it more.”

Kutumela, who has had to be patient for opportunities, says he is ready to contribute whenever called upon as AmaZulu push to consolidate their position near the top of the standings.

“In football, when you’re not playing, you have to stay patient and support the players in the starting line-up. When your chance comes, you must take it,” he explained.

“I think I’m coming right one game at a time, and I want to help the team win the next match.”

AmaZulu will also be banking on their strong home form to tilt the contest in their favour, particularly against a Sekhukhune side known for its physical approach and resilience. A win could create valuable breathing room in the standings, while defeat would tighten an already congested race for continental qualification spots.

Sekhukune lost 1-0 against Lamontville Golden Arrows on their last trip to Durban for a league match. With both sides chasing the same objective, Monday’s encounter could prove pivotal in shaping the upper half of the Premiership table.

For AmaZulu, maintaining their home advantage and rediscovering their pre-break rhythm may be key – but as Kutumela suggests, it could ultimately come down to desire on the day.
