The community of Kensington is in mourning following the tragic death of metro police officer Tyler Lamb, who fell from a roof while pursuing robbery suspects on Friday. The heart-wrenching incident has left a palpable sense of loss as colleagues and residents alike reflect on Lamb's dedication to his duty.

Lamb, 30, was part of a team actively pursuing suspects linked to a midday robbery that occurred at a business parking area on 8th Avenue. The quick response to the incident led to the arrest of two suspects; however, their capture offers little solace to the grieving community and Lamb’s fellow officers.

Police spokesperson Wesley Twigg confirmed the arrests and shared that both individuals will face multiple charges, including murder, attempted murder, robbery, and possession of ammunition as part of the ongoing investigation.

“Kensington police registered various cases for investigation following the incident,” Twigg stated. “The circumstances surrounding the incident are under investigation.” Tragically, Lamb succumbed to his injuries at the hospital following the accident that occurred during a scuffle with the alleged robbers.

Samuel April, spokesperson for Kensington/Factreton CPF, expressed deep sorrow over the loss of Officer Lamb. “I was on the scene when it occurred, as I got an alert about the incident. This is a very sad situation that leaves one speechless,” he reflected. April extended heartfelt condolences to Lamb’s family, acknowledging the ongoing challenges of gang violence in the area and calling for community unity.

Mayco member for Safety and Security, JP Smith, also expressed his devastation over the loss of Lamb, a dedicated neighbourhood safety officer. “Information at this stage is that he was chasing a suspect in a shooting incident across a roof. He fell as a result of a scuffle and lost consciousness. Despite the best efforts of EMTs and hospital staff, I was informed that the officer had passed away,” Smith said.

Smith further stated that Lamb’s death is a significant loss to the Safety and Security Directorate, extending his condolences and promising support from the city, including access to chaplaincy services. While the news of the arrests offers some relief, it does little to fill the void left by Lamb’s untimely passing.
