A 10-week-old puppy, who has been named Mckenzie, remains fearful of humans after it was tied in a sack and thrown from a moving vehicle in Chatsworth on Wednesday night.
Pat Naidoo, an animal rights activist in Chatsworth, appealed to residents and business owners in the area to assist them with footage of the vehicle from which the dog was thrown out of.
She said the incident happened near the Moorton Shopping Centre.
"A woman walking out of the shopping centre saw an Indian man throw the sack out of the car. Another passerby opened the sack following hearing yelps from inside. When the sack was opened, the puppy ran across the road. He sat terrified outside a house, crying from fear. It would not let anyone near him."
Naidoo the dog was scared of touch and suffered from severe trauma.
“We do not know how long the dog had been tied in the sack, or when last it had been fed. It was taken in by the KZN Doghouse until a foster home is found. He was named Mckenzie."
She said fellow animal rights activists were concerned about the increase in animal cruelty cases in Chatsworth and urged residents to report acts of animal abuse.
Naidoo said last week that a one-week-old pup had been tied to a street pole and abandoned, and a six-week-old pup was thrown from a moving vehicle in Crossmoor.
“These dogs need foster homes. We call on residents to open their hearts and foster abused and abandoned puppies."
