Sometimes, life just hits you with a moment so good, you have to stop and say, "This is why we live." Thatās exactly what international traveller Fin Dearsly experienced in Cape Town recently.
On Instagram, he shared a simple but powerful caption: āThe most insane sunset in Cape Town. Happy. Content. Grateful.ā
Seven days before that moment, he was on his bedroom floor, crying his eyes out, trying to talk himself out of taking the flight.
A week later, there he was, on a moped (lightweight motorbike) riding near Lionās Head, watching a sunset so transfixing he couldnāt contain himself:
"Seven days ago, literally to the hour, I was on my bedroom floor crying my eyes out, trying to talk myself out of taking this flight. And now I'm in South Africa, seven days later, watching the most insane sunset," he says.
āJust f***** do it! What a good decision. I am so glad I said yes and that I just went for it," he added.
The traveller admitted he was second-guessing whether it was worth flying solo to a random country with no plan.
But as his Cape Town sunset proves, sometimes those spur-of-the-moment, āwhat am I even doing?ā decisions are exactly what you need.
And can you blame him? Hereās something about the way the mountains, city, and ocean come together that makes every evening feel like a proper masterpiece.
It was especially heart-warming to read the comments, with so many South Africans showing this traveller love and support.
@juneshirfish commented: āWelcome to Cape Town! You are most welcome to come for tea/coffee or a glass of wine with hubby and I⦠Enjoy South African hospitality! ššššā
And @gayatcornelius added: āTo SA, the rainbow nation where we love everyone!! May Cape Town, our mother city, treat you with laughter, love and respect!! Enjoy all the free beauty and blessings of our motherland.ā
But beyond the photos, thereās a lesson here. Life will always have those āfloor moments,ā when fear or doubt tries to stop you. But sometimes, you just have to take the leap. Say yes.
Go for it. And in doing so, youāll find yourself somewhere beautiful, somewhere full of gratitude, and somewhere that reminds you why the world and our own backyard is worth exploring.
This traveller encourages us to pause, look around, and appreciate where we are.
So the next time you catch a sunset, whether itās Lionās Head, Clifton, or even your backyard, take a moment. Be grateful. Be content. And, like Dearsly, just enjoy it.
