Research from travel insurance specialists InsureandGo has identified the natural experiences currently exploding in popularity.
By analysing over 1 500 social media conversations and tracking Google search data, they’ve revealed which bucket list adventures are seeing a massive surge in demand for 2026.
"Our research proves that travellers are looking for extraordinary moments that bring them closer to nature... People are clearly seeking more unforgettable experiences in 2026," shared Letitia Smith, head of communications at the company.
Taking the top spot by a landslide is shark cage diving.
While South Africa’s coastline, specifically around Gansbaai and Cape Town, has long been the heart of this industry, global interest has skyrocketed by a massive 1,464% over the past year.
According to the study, this is a "once-in-a-lifetime experience for people to get up close and personal with these cold-blooded creatures; whether that’s (literally) being thrown in the deep end in the Galapagos Islands, or off the Western Cape of South Africa, it’s an experience that clearly appeals to more than just adrenaline junkies."
While sharks are leading the pack, they aren't the only natural wonders seeing a spike in interest.
Trailing the massive 1,464% surge for shark cage diving tours are the ever-popular Northern Lights tours, which have seen a 573% increase in interest.
