Get ready for an unforgettable afternoon of music and compassion as the Bob Mowday Big Band takes the stage at Pinewood Village this Saturday. This special benefit concert is not just a showcase of incredible talent; it's a heartfelt initiative to support the Mdzananda Animal Clinic & Shelter in Khayelitsha. With each note played, attendees will not only enjoy the enchanting sounds of big band classics but also contribute to a noble cause that provides vital care for local animals in need. Join us for a day where the magic of music meets the spirit of community, and help make a difference in the lives of our furry friends.
Bob Mowday, a beloved music teacher in Cape Town, founded the Big Band nearly a decade ago to enable his students to perform alongside seasoned professionals. The band is dedicated solely to charity events, showcasing a classic big band sound that's reminiscent of the iconic swing era. With an array of instruments including saxophones, trumpets, and trombones, along with a vibrant rhythm section, the band encapsulates musical diversity through genres ranging from big band swing to rock & roll and R&B. Each performance is highlighted by a talented vocalist poised to get audiences on their feet.
The concert will kick off at 15:00 in the Village Restaurant, where attendees can revel in an afternoon filled with jazz and the best of big band classics, all for a noble cause. With tickets priced at R150 per person, which must be purchased in advance either at the booking table in Pinewood Village or through Mdzananda Animal Clinic, this event is open to the general public, inviting all to contribute to the welfare of animals in their community.
Funds raised from the concert will be directly benefitting the Mdzananda Animal Clinic, assisting in their veterinary care, animal rescue services, and community education programmes. Kelly Arendse, Fundraiser at Mdzananda, highlights the significance of such events.
“These types of events enable us to continue doing the very important work we do in the community of Khayelitsha. Right now, especially during the colder months, our need is even greater to help sick, injured and homeless pets in Khayelitsha. Community support like this helps us provide warmth, care and medical support to animals and their families who would otherwise go without.”
For over 25 years, Mdzananda Animal Clinic has been a pillar in the Khayelitsha community, providing essential veterinary services and educational support to hundreds of animals every month. The upcoming concert not only serves as a homage to the love of music but also reinforces the strong bond between humans and animals.
Whether you're a jazz enthusiast, an animal lover, or simply seeking a meaningful way to spend your Saturday afternoon, the Bob Mowday Big Band concert promises an experience that will warm hearts and generate much-needed funds for animals in distress.
