Cape Town - Baxter Theatre will be closing its exciting outdoor concert experience season with sweet melodies and sensational sounds from music sensation, Ntsika Fana Ngxanga on Sunday, 24 April.

The multi-award-winning singer and songwriter will be headlining the show with a fresh sound to complement a diverse and exciting line-up, as he will be performing songs from his long-awaited debut solo album, ‘I Write What I Dream’.

Inspired by a series of visitations and dreams from his great, great grandfather, Ngxanga said that his musical journey was magical.

“The music is very spiritual because it comes from a spiritual and sacred place. God being the source, he then hands it over to my ancestors for them to teach me the intricate nuances of the music through a series of dreams. What follows each time I perform are emotions of overwhelming warmth and a safe space that is truly beautiful. When my guides also decide to announce their presence on stage, I just find myself crying too, and then involuntarily start a beautiful and emotionally charged chain reaction,” said Ngxanga.

While the solo album, which debuted at number 12 on iTunes, was described as a spiritual, and cross-generational body of work rooted in African heritage, Ngxanga said that given his journey, his body of work will continue to be an affirmation of just how hungry people are for his musical offerings.

“There’s a song in particular that I sing for this current generation and future generations of young Africans. It’s titled ‘Alkebulan’ (the original name of the mother continent), and there’s a part in the song that goes, ‘Being Black is a gift. Walk with pride. Your blood is made of gold. You are royalty.’ I find that when you remind people of just how incredible they are, they will never run away from who they were born to become.”

“Each time I reflect on the journey so far, I find myself uttering out loud these words: ‘I’m living the best moments of my life.’ The support has been surreal, and I’m truly grateful for it. The love my music continues to receive is beyond incredible, and what I’m most grateful for, is the magical resonance that people find in my music when they immerse themselves in it," said Ngxanga.

Baxter Theatre spokesperson Fahiem Stellenboom, said that the aim behind the Sun-Set@Baxter concert series was to showcase the variety of amazing local music artists and create opportunities for audiences to share in the success, while enjoying sensational music.

"In November last year, The Baxter launched our Sun-Set@Baxter outdoor concert series to celebrate the summer during this difficult time of the Covid-19 pandemic and lockdown restrictions, which had devastating effects. At the end of last year, there was some respite in the restrictions with regard to audience numbers for outdoor events. This gave rise to the idea of using our beautifully landscaped garden (which we couldn’t share with audiences because of lockdown) as a venue to not only generate income for The Baxter, but to also create exciting and innovative theatre experiences for audiences.

“With Ngxanga’s music, The Baxter’s lawns are the perfect summer experience, along with a picnic basket and the unique spiritual and African sounds that make Ngxanga’s music easy and special to listen to. Furthermore, Ngxanga’s performance is profound and engaging, and I think this will give him great appeal to those who witness it. The Baxter is so excited to bring this season of the Sun-Set@Baxter series to a close, with such a dynamic performer as Ntsika," said Stellenboom.

With the theme of the concert being all about the outdoors, Ngxanga added that he hopes the audience will feel the radiant energy of the music, and leave the concert feeling refreshed, renewed, and replenished.

“When I hear Sun-Set@Baxter Garden Concert, I immediately think ‘radiance’ and I urge people not to just buy their tickets but to also bring their beautiful spirits, incredible hearts, and intentional energy so that we can all create that ‘radiance’. I would love for everyone to leave with what will be love epitomized and healing from the music, which in its purest form, will have an eternal imprint in their hearts," said Ngxanga.

Performances will be regulated by lockdown regulations at the time, with all Covid-19 protocols in place and to be observed.

Tickets for Sun-Set@Baxter with Ntsika, on Sunday, 24 April 2022, are R195. Patrons can purchase picnic baskets with various options when purchasing tickets at an additional cost.

Doors open at 5pm and the performance starts at 6pm. Booking is through Webtickets online at www.webtickets.co.za or Pick n Pay stores.
