The 2025 Alexforbes Battle Boards national online chess tournament has officially concluded, with Curro Durbanville High School crowned national champions.

Paarl Boys High School secured second place and Queens College Boys High School in the Eastern Cape finished third in this prestigious inter-school competition held on August 9.

The Alexforbes Battle Boards tournament is South Africa’s leading online high school chess event. This year, 16 schools advanced to the national rounds, culminating in 224 online games during the finals weekend. The tournament once again highlighted the exceptional skill, determination and sportsmanship of the country’s top young chess players.
