SA’s interior design and home renovation sector is experiencing a generational shift, as a new wave of entrepreneurs challenges a space long dominated by established players.
Leading that charge are Keyan and Kynne Theodorou, both in their 20s, who have already made a name for themselves with their business, Interiology.
Interiology specialises in bespoke kitchens and full interior refurbishments, operating nationally across SA and taking on select projects elsewhere on the continent.
Kynne said their entry into the industry was driven by passion.
“We’ve always loved creating spaces that feel personal and functional,” he said.
Keyan added, “We wanted to show that age doesn’t define credibility. What matters is vision, attention to detail, and the systems you put in place.”
The business quickly gained traction.
“It didn’t take long for our work to be recognised,” Kynne said.
“Projects started getting shared, and suddenly, we were part of conversations shaping the industry.”
In a sector where decades of experience are often seen as essential, they have found that meticulous planning and execution can deliver the same confidence to clients.
“In a sector where credibility is often linked to decades of experience, we’ve found that structure, systems, and attention to detail can instil the same level of confidence,” Kynne said.
Interiology’s work has also found an audience on social media.
Their Instagram following has grown to over 40,000, where they document live projects in real time. Several of their projects have received international attention after being featured in global design and lifestyle publications.
“Clients increasingly engage with us already familiar with our work,” Keyan said.
“This immediately shifts the relationship. The conversation moves straight into decisions, materials, and execution.”
“The objective isn’t scale for its own sake,” Kynne added.
“It’s precision. Every project must be delivered properly. Everything else follows.”
For the Theodorous, age has not been a barrier but a differentiator.
By combining youthful energy with professional discipline, they are redefining what it means to succeed in South Africa’s interior design industry.
