Western Cape audiences are in for a special experience as the multiple award-winning musical, Actress, is set to premiere locally at The Drama Factory this April.
The production, a fresh musical dramedy, has already garnered significant acclaim, including the Naledi Theatre Award for Best Actress in a Musical and a Broadway World South Africa Award for Best New Musical.
Starring and co-written by Talia Kodesh, the show features eight original songs composed by Bruce Dennill. Actress tells the relatable and moving story of a woman navigating and striving to succeed in the different roles she juggles in life: actress, wife, mother, daughter, and teacher. It charts a journey through the "challenge, mayhem, drama and comedy that juggling multiple roles can bring," according to Sue Diepeveen, founder of The Drama Factory.
The creative team boasts impressive credentials, including the director, Daniel Geddes, and designers Sarah Roberts (set and costume) and Denis Hutchinson (lighting), all of whom hold multiple Naledi, Fleur Du Cap, and Vita Awards. The cast also features Stephen van Niekerk in the intriguing, pivotal role of Random Props Guy.
Kodesh, who has previously performed in productions like Beauty and the Beast and RENT, said: “How exhilarating it has been for me to star in a production that I have also created... I cannot wait for a whole new audience to meet Actress – I’m certain they will relate to her!”
Actress will run for a strictly limited season at The Drama Factory.
