In a landmark moment for African cinema, the harrowing and lyrical documentary Our Earth, My Blood has been named in the Official Selection for the 65th Monte Carlo Television Festival. The film, which chronicles the resilience of the San people against a backdrop of colonial genocide, will compete for the world-renowned Golden Nymph Award, an accolade synonymous with the highest tier of global broadcasting excellence.
Produced by the legendary Anant Singh of Videovision Entertainment, in association with Distant Horizon, the film arrives at a time of profound historical reckoning. The nomination places the production among a select group of 24 films from 13 countries, competing across the Feature Reports & News, Fiction, and Digital categories.
Directed by the visionary duo Craig and Damon Foster—the creative forces behind the Academy Award-winning My Octopus Teacher—the film is a visceral exploration of the San, the world’s most ancient shamanic and hunter-gatherer community. We are delighted, said producer Anant Singh. the film tells of the colonial genocide of the San people, a culture battling to survive atrocities and displacement, and whose traditions are severely threatened.
The Fosters echoed this sentiment, noting that the nomination provides a vital global platform for diverse African narratives that celebrate the living heritage of the world’s oldest continuous culture.
The international acclaim for the film follows a significant domestic milestone. Earlier this year, President Cyril Ramaphosa officiated the reburial of 63 Khoi and San ancestral remains at the Kinderlê Monument in the Northern Cape. The remains had been repatriated from Scotland, where they were held for over a century following their appropriation for racist scientific research between 1868 and 1924.
Cécile Menoni, CEO of the Monte-Carlo Television Festival, lauded the entry for its profound depth. South Africa stands out this year with a powerful entry which explores memory, land, and survival, Menoni stated, confirming that the nomination itself serves as a hallmark of highest calibre production.
The Festival is scheduled to run from 12–16 June 2026. Industry experts and global royalty will descend upon the Grimaldi Forum for the announcement of the winners during the glamorous Blue Carpet Ceremony on Tuesday, 16 June.
As Our Earth, My Blood prepares for its showcase in Monaco, it carries with it more than just the hope of a trophy; it carries the weight of a restored history and the resilient spirit of a people who refuse to be forgotten.
