Following years of headlines, public scrutiny and speculation, Londie London, whose real name is Londie Zulu, is ready to let viewers see the person behind it all.
The singer and reality TV star has opened up her life like never before in her new reality series, “Life With Londie London”, which premiered on Mzansi Magic on Thursday, May 21.
While many viewers first got to know her through “The Real Housewives of Durban”, London says this show is very different from anything she has done before.
The timing felt right for the “He Goes” hitmaker. She was finally ready to step out from behind the glamour, headlines and drama, allowing the world to see the real woman rather than just fragments of her.
“This felt like the right time because I am in a completely different space emotionally and mentally. I have grown a lot and I wanted people to see the rebuilding process, not just the perfect moments,” she said.
Described as a fly-on-the-wall reality series, “Life With Londie London” follows the reality star as she balances motherhood, family, business and music while navigating a new chapter in her life.
London says viewers will get to see a far more personal side of her than they have in the past. “This show is much more personal. It is not just about appearances or social circles.
“People will see me as a mother, a daughter and a businesswoman trying to keep everything together. There are vulnerable moments in the show that I have never shared publicly before.”
Following her run on “The Real Housewives of Durban”, opening up in front of cameras again was not an easy decision for her.
London admitted there were times when she questioned herself.
“There were moments where I asked myself if I really wanted cameras around while dealing with certain things, but I also realised that people were already speaking about my life without knowing the truth. I wanted to tell my own story in my own words,” London said.
The show also tackles some of the rumours and controversies that have followed her over the years. However, London insists that the goal is not to settle scores.
“Silence can sometimes make people believe anything. I reached a point where I was tired of people creating narratives for me. I am not doing this to fight with anyone or prove something. I am doing it because I deserve to be heard too,” the singer said.
While the show will still feature the glamour many associate with her, she shared that audiences should also expect honesty and real-life moments.
“There is glamour, of course, but there is also real life. There are moments where I am emotional, frustrated, happy and trying to find balance again.”
Viewers can also meet the people closest to her and witness how they help her stay grounded.
When asked about the most emotional part of filming, she revealed that it was reliving certain moments of her life that she thought she had already healed from.
“Sometimes you move on privately, but speaking about things out loud brings back emotions. There were definitely days where filming became overwhelming.”
One of her biggest concerns before filming was how audiences would respond to seeing a more vulnerable side of her.
“Once people think they know you, it is difficult to change that perception. I was nervous about being vulnerable again, especially after everything I have gone through publicly.”
The show also challenges one of the biggest misconceptions people have about her.
“People think I am cold or always trying to appear perfect, but I am actually very soft and emotional. I have just learned to protect myself because of what comes with being in the public eye,” she said.
London spoke candidly about the pressure women often face to appear as though everything is under control.
“People expect you to always look strong, beautiful and unbothered, but this show is not about pretending everything is okay. There are moments where I am struggling, frustrated or questioning myself and I wanted that to be part of the story too,” she said.
According to her, the show is not about pretending that everything is okay. There are moments where viewers will see her struggling, frustrated and questioning herself.
As for dealing with the constant online discussions about her personal life, she admitted it can sometimes be overwhelming.
“People forget there is a real person behind the headlines. I have had to learn how to separate social media opinions from reality and focus on the people who actually know me,” she said.
Above all, London hopes viewers walk away from the show with a reminder that starting over is not something to be ashamed of and that life does not always go according to plan, sometimes you have to rebuild quietly and find yourself again.
