Shakira is heading back to football’s biggest stage. The global superstar has officially announced “Dai Dai” with Nigerian star Burna Boy as the official song for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, marking yet another World Cup era for the singer who gave the world “Waka Waka (This Time for Africa)” and “La La La”.

The Colombian singer teased the upcoming release through a joint Instagram post with FIFA and Global Citizen, sharing a preview of both the song and its music video ahead of its official release on May 14.

In the teaser video, Shakira is seen inside Maracanã Stadium wearing a bright yellow top and royal blue mini skirt while holding a football. The video then cuts to aerial shots of the iconic stadium alongside the words “We Are Ready”.

The snippet already has fans drawing comparisons to her previous World Cup anthems, especially because of how naturally the song blends her signature Latin-pop sound with Burna Boy’s Afrobeats influence.

The collaboration also continues Shakira’s long-running relationship with the World Cup.

She previously performed “Hips Don’t Lie” during the 2006 FIFA World Cup closing ceremony. In 2010, she released “Waka Waka (This Time for Africa)” alongside Freshlyground for the 2010 tournament in South Africa.

The song went on to become one of the most recognisable World Cup songs of all time. She later returned again with “La La La” for the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil.

Fans online noticed a subtle nod to that history in the teaser. The clip opens with four footballs, each representing the different World Cups Shakira has now been attached to throughout her career.

The upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup will be the first edition to feature 48 teams and will be hosted across three countries: the United States, Canada and Mexico. The teams will play a grand total of 104 matches.

The tournament officially kicks off on June 11, 2026 at Mexico City Stadium, where co-hosts Mexico are set to face Bafana Bafana in the opening match. The final will be held at the New York New Jersey Stadium (MetLife Stadium) on July 19.
