The stars were out in full force at the 2026 American Music Awards (AMAs).
Hosted by rapper and actress Queen Latifah, the music industry gathered to celebrate the year’s biggest hits and artists.
Among the evening’s standout moments was an emotional reunion between Fergie and her former Black Eyed Peas bandmates as they accepted the inaugural Best Throwback Song award.
Fergie joined will.i.am, Taboo and apl.de.ap to accept the award for their 2010 hit, “Rock That Body”.
Standing together on an awards stage for the first time in years, the group's reunion was a deeply moving moment, with Fergie tearing up as she spoke about the song's enduring legacy and the memories they shared.
“What a moment, I want to thank all of the fans for voting for this so I can stand up here right now with my longtime friends and brothers, the Black Eyed Peas. In honour of this special song, this era, ‘Rock That Body’, there’s so many memories along the line with that,” she said in the acceptance speech.
She also thanked fans who have continued to keep the song alive through social media content over the years.
“I want to thank everyone who made TikToks and Instagram videos and making this moment possible so that my son would put our song on his playlist.
“To all of our supporters who have made content throughout the years, thank you so much. Sometimes, the content you make is so big and the feelings are so big for me it’s overwhelming to look at because there’s so much love that you put into it and I just want to say thank you from the bottom of my heart. I see you, you mean so much.”
The singer then gave a special shout-out to her 12-year-old son, Axl.
“And I get to now say this,” she teased, “I finally, finally get to say this on TV: ‘Hi Axl!’ ‘Rock That Body’ we did it!”
Best Throwback Song is one of the newer additions to the AMAs.
The category was introduced to celebrate classic songs that not only dominated pop radio during their original release but have continued to leave a lasting impact on music culture years later.
The Black Eyed Peas became the first-ever winners of the category, with “Rock That Body” beating fellow nominees including “What’s Up?” by 4 Non Blondes and “Iris” by Goo Goo Dolls.
The group’s victory comes more than 15 years after the song’s original release and highlights how the Black Eyed Peas’ catalogue has been able to withstand the test of time.
Fergie was a member of the Black Eyed Peas from 2002 until 2018, helping the group achieve global success with hits including “Where Is the Love?”, “My Humps”, “Boom Boom Pow” and “I Gotta Feeling” before focusing on her solo career.
