The 2026 FIFA World Cup is still days away, but one of the tournament’s biggest talking points is already a song.
Popular streamer and YouTube star IShowSpeed has sent the internet into a frenzy after releasing his unofficial World Cup anthem, “World Cup (Champions)”, on Monday, June 1.
Just two days later, the music video has surged past 8.3 million views on YouTube and attracted more than one million likes, turning it into one of the most talked-about football songs of the year.
For those unfamiliar with the online phenomenon, IShowSpeed, whose real name is Darren Jason Watkins Jr., is one of the world's biggest content creators, boasting more than 54 million YouTube subscribers and a massive global following built on his energetic livestreams, football obsession and viral internet moments.
The song's rapid rise has been fuelled by more than just views.
Shortly after releasing the track, Speed took to X and directly asked FIFA if the song could become an official World Cup anthem.
"Can we make this official?? @FIFAWorldCup," he posted.
What happened next sent fans into overdrive.
The official FIFA World Cup account replied with a simple but intriguing message: "We will be in touch."
That response immediately sparked speculation online, with supporters flooding social media to argue that “World Cup (Champions)” captures the spirit of the tournament better than some of the officially released songs.
Unlike traditional tournament anthems that rely heavily on global pop stars and polished production, Speed's approach feels more like a celebration created by a football fan for football fans.
The track gives a shout-out to countries competing in the tournament and leans into the excitement, chaos and passion that surround the World Cup.
The music video also showcases vibrant Ghanaian cultural elements, traditional dancers and energetic choreography that have resonated with viewers around the world.
Many fans have praised the song's stadium-ready energy, while others have launched petitions and social media campaigns urging FIFA to formally embrace it.
Reddit users and football fans across multiple platforms have described it as the unofficial World Cup song of 2026.
This is not Speed's first World Cup success story.
Back in 2022, he released “World Cup”, a song that became a viral sensation and amassed hundreds of millions of views across platforms.
That track helped cement his status as one of football's most influential online personalities and demonstrated his unique ability to connect internet culture with the global game.
His latest release appears to be following a similar path, only faster.
Whether FIFA follows through on its teasing response remains to be seen.
But with more than 8.3 million views and over one million likes in less than 48 hours, “World Cup (Champions)” has already achieved something many official tournament songs struggle to do: get football fans genuinely excited.
And as the countdown to the 2026 World Cup continues, one question keeps popping up online: is this the unofficial FIFA World Cup anthem everyone will actually remember?
