Severe thunderstorms are expected to develop over parts of central South Africa on Wednesday, bringing heavy downpours, damaging winds and a risk of localised flooding in affected areas.

South Africans can expect an unsettled Wednesday as widespread showers and thunderstorms develop across much of the country, with the heaviest rainfall expected over the central interior where rain chances climb to 60%.
The South African Weather Service warns that thunderstorms over parts of the North West, Free State, Northern Cape and surrounding interior may become severe, bringing heavy downpours, damaging winds and a risk of localised flooding in vulnerable communities.
Rain chances of 30% are forecast over parts of Limpopo, Mpumalanga, KwaZulu-Natal and the central Karoo, where scattered afternoon showers and thunderstorms are expected to develop.
Rainfall is expected over the interior tomorrow.

The western and south-western parts of the country, including much of the Western Cape, are expected to remain dry with no significant rainfall forecast.
A Yellow Level 2 warning for severe thunderstorms has been issued over parts of the central interior, where intense storms may damage infrastructure and informal settlements.
Along the KwaZulu-Natal coast, a Yellow Level 1 warning for damaging waves remains in effect, with rough sea conditions expected to disrupt beach activities and pose challenges for small vessels.
Motorists and residents in storm-prone areas are urged to remain alert for rapidly changing weather conditions as the midweek system moves across the country.
