Chris Brown has added a new title to his name after receiving an honorary Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) degree in Visual & Performing Arts from Harvest Christian University.
The award-winning singer shared the news on Instagram, posting pictures from the ceremony showing him dressed in academic regalia while holding his honorary doctorate certificate. “I did a thing,” the caption read.
According to the certificate shared online, the honorary degree was awarded on May 23, in recognition of his contributions to the visual and performing arts.
The honour recognises a career that has spanned more than two decades.
Brown first burst onto the music scene in 2005 with his self-titled debut album, which produced the hit single “Run It!”.
According to reports, the song made history by reaching No.1 on the Billboard Hot 100, making him one of the youngest male artists to achieve the feat with a debut single.
Over the years, he has built one of the most successful catalogues in contemporary R&B, releasing a string of albums including “Exclusive”, “F.A.M.E.”, “Fortune”, “X”, “Heartbreak on a Full Moon”, “Indigo”, “Breezy”, “11:11”, and his latest project, “Brown”.
His music has earned him multiple Grammy nominations, with “F.A.M.E.” winning Best R&B Album at the 2012 Grammy Awards and “11:11 (Deluxe)” earning him another Grammy win for Best R&B Album in 2025.
Beyond music, Brown has become known for his stage presence and choreography, often drawing comparisons to some of the industry’s greatest performers.
His elaborate live shows, visually driven music videos and ability to blend singing, dancing and performance have remained central to his career for nearly two decades.
The singer’s influence extends beyond the recording studio. He has ventured into directing music videos, fashion and visual art, frequently showcasing his artwork publicly and incorporating creative visual concepts into his projects.
The honorary doctorate also arrives during another busy chapter in the singer’s career.
Earlier this month, Brown released his latest album, “Brown”, a 27-track project featuring collaborations with artists including Bryson Tiller, NBA YoungBoy and Lucky Daye.
The album reportedly debuted inside the top 10 of the Billboard 200 chart, becoming Brown’s 13th top-10 album and further extending his commercial success nearly 20 years after his debut.
Additionally, the recognition also comes as anticipation continues to build around his upcoming co-headlining stadium tour with Usher.
The 33-date tour is scheduled to kick off later this year and will see the two R&B stars perform across major venues throughout the United States.
